Shannon Races.
Yesterday a small race meeting was held at Shannon which was well attended, and the events were well contested. The day was very fine, and everything passed off satisfactorily. Some good sport was witnessed during the day, and several close finishes eventuated. Several persons went from here. The Club ran the meeting without the totalisator, the necessary permit not being obtained. The secretary, Mr Moynihan, and officials of the Club did everything in their power to make the meeting a success. Following are the results : — Shorts Handicap, 4 sovs. Five furlongs. — A. Hall's Lady Newstead, i ; A. Rush's Bushmap, 2 ; Retter's Whioi, 3. . Handicap Hurdles, of 8 sovs. One and a half miles. — A. J. Burns' Kohuriri, i ; W. Sexton's Quiver, 2 ; 'D. Arapere's Nevermind, 3. Trial Hurdles," of 4 sovs. A mile and a distance. — Bushman, 1 ; Little Jack, 2 ; Rauriki, 3. Shannon Handicap, of 5 soys. One mile. — A. J. Burns' Kohuriri, 1; S. Teaz's Waipuna, 2 ; A. Demler's Atholeen, 3. District Race, of 5 sovs. One mile. — A. Hall's Diamond, 1 ; E. Richards' The Baron, 2 ; R. J. Durham's Donald Dinnie, 3. Easter Handicap, of 5 sovs. One mile. — J. Allport's Pauper, 1; F. R. Young's Little Jack, 2; A. Demler's Atholeen, 3.
