Dudley Colliery Explosion.

— ■ ' ■ » In the exploration of tha Dudley coal-mine. It turns out that there were 15 in the mine, so that 10 more have yet to be recovered. The search parties are displaying great gallantry. They have been driven baok time and again by the noxious gases, as well as by the smoke from the fires. The inspector states that the fires are confined to a small area. Carbon monoxide has been den tec ted, and the Government has sent up a number of white mice, the3e creatures being extremely sensitive to the smallest percentage of white damp in the atmosphere. The bodies of Haddon and Mow bray and the lad MeDougall have been found, all dreadfully burned and j decomposed. Latter on the bodies of Jones and Budge were found. All had died from inhaling poisonous gas. The bodies of the two latter were unrecognisable except by their slothes. Owing to a fresh fire having broken out, or an increase of one of the fires located in the Dudley pit, the search parties have been withdrawn, and the work of searching for the bodies was suspended till to-day. The explosion ocourred in a part of the mine that had not been worked for some time, in which rails were being laid down with a view of resuming work at an early date. . The fire has now reached extens ive proportions, and the search for remaining bodies has been adandoned the smoke belching from the pit mouth. It has been decided to flood the mine immediately, it being the only way to cope with the fire.
