The Foxton Sports.
-♦ Today the Sports are being held in Victoria Park. Last night the rain, most welcome to farmers, ctme down in torrents bat cleared about aipe o'clock. The special train, » guaranteed by the Foxton Cycling ? Club came in at half past ten with about 15 passengers, four or five others having got out at Carnarvon. We much regret to find that the guarantors will have made a serious lon. The attendance at the Sports is very imall, but in spite of this discouragement the racing ii being got . off well and in good time. Patron, F. Robinson, Esq. ; President;, J. Westwood's trophy, value 20s ; second, trophyvalue 10s. Nomination, zs; ac, ceptance, 6d. W, Howan 80yds, 1; H. Austin 40yds, 2 ; R. T. Betty 40yds, 3. O. Austin scr., and A. R. Osborne 80yds also started. Time, imin iysec. W. Howan, the winner, has only commenced to ride a bicycle within the last four weeks, so that more will be heard about him on the track in the near future. The race was his from start to finish. 3. 100 YARDS HANDICAP (flat race). First prize, sob; second. zos. Nomination, zs ; acceptance* 6d. L. Furrie 10yds, 1 ; B. Gray zoyds, 2 ; A. Cummerfield beat K. Furrie. Time, . i2sec. v T6. ONE MILE BICYCLE HANDICAP (local). First prize, Mr P. Hennessy's trophy, value 30s; second, trophy value zos. Nomination, zs ; acceptance, 6d. W. Howan Z3oyds, 1 ; H. Austin 80yds, 2; O. Austin scr., 3. R. T. Betty 90yds, T. Westwood zioyds and A. R. Osborne zßoyds, also competed. . Time, 2min 4&£ sec. This race excited considerable interest, the winner's form in the first bicycle race made him favourite. The second man rode hard and made a good fight for second place, pushing Howan at the latter part of the last lap. He was however terribly out of condition. The scratch man came in third and made good running all the way and had there been another lap to travel would have made the winner
