Accident.
A Pakeha-Maori hailing from Poroutawhfto, known as " Htppy Jack." met with a bad accident od , Tuesday last at Ohan, which might have oost him hi« life. He assaytd to ride a race on horitback with a young native, and when just past Mr Walk ley's store lost contiol of his hovte, which galloped along tb> aide of the road. " Happy Jack's foot caught against a Ulegmph pole, and a moment aftt rwaid^ he was thrown with terrific force against the post of the road fenc?, and hurl d to the ground. A number of person* witnessed the accident, and rushed to the aid of the unfortunate man. Ii was found that his foot and leg were badly hurt, his head bruised, and he wat 80 badly shaken that it was about an hoar before be could be r<;» moved. The placa where the poor fellow was thrown abounded with big bouldera, and he struck the ground within a few . inches of a large itone. Had' he struck this; most likely he would have been killed. With much difficulty •• Happy Jack" was got on hia horse, and escorted back to Poroutawhao.— Mail.
