FRIGOTHERAPEUTICS. A New Way to Get Up an Appetite— The Ico Curo Fcr Dyspepsia. Prof csscr Pictet is reported by the French exchanges to have pufe before tho Academy of Medicine tho whole systom of frigotherapeutics. Ho began by experimenting on dogs and found that when they wero plunged into a bath at low temperature and when kept there for some time they became ravenously hungry. Being himself a sufferer from stomach disease, he had forgotten what it was to have an appetite. So he descended into the refrigerating tank at a teinporaturo many degrees below zero. Ho wrapped a thick pelisse and other warm clothes about him, but after four minutes he began to f<:el hungry. At tho ond of eight minutes ho climbed out of tho tank with a painfully keen appetito. Many such experiments wero made. All meals taken after a short stay in the refiigerator agreed with him. Ho found that his dyspepsin was cured after tho tenth descent. Certain French physicians are also reported as having cured colds by applying ice to the spine.
