A GOOD APPOINTMENT.

The Government has appointed Mr Robert Gardner, late of Foxton, who is now living in Wellington, to act with Mr R. Duncan, Chief Inspector of Machinery, in dealing with the claims for the hemp bonuses. Seventeen applications have been received for the bonus of £1750 offered for a machine or process which will prove to be a distinct improvement on the pre-

sent method of dressing th^ green flax, and seven have been sent in for the bonus of £250 for an improved method of utilising the waste products in the flax mills.— Post.
