Spirit Adulteration.

Both analyses show that the whisky had been adulterated with water to *an extent of somewhat more than the law allowed ; the Act permitting 25 per cent of water to be added, while the analysis showed that the whiskey sold contained 46 per cent of water. The defendant would therefore be convicted and fined £5 and costs £9 23 8d for selling whisky largely adulterated with water. 11 Another important question arises," continued the Magistrate, 11 which* is, when was the glycerine put in ? And the analysis of a sample taken from the octave from which the whisky sold was drawn, Bhows conclusively, to my mind, that the glycerine was put into the whisky before it came into O'Donn ell's hands whether by the Auckland merchants or before it came into their hands, Ido not know. The whisky, as sent to O'Donnell, contained a consider-, able quantity of glycerine, but was 25 overproof.
