* London. DEFEAT OF THE STRIKERS. Tha Amalgamated Society of Engineers has deoided to take a third ballot upon the question of provisional arrangements with regard to the oonditions of management of workshops. The Unionist leaders reoommend the engineers to accept the era ployers' terms plu3 the disclaimer of any intention to reduce time and piecework earnings. The subscriptions to the' strike fund are decreasing, and the leaders consider it advisable to stop the drain on the funds, Binee there is little chance of bettering their condition.
