THE GERMAN LANDLORD AND THE IRISH TENANT. ' At the Shoreditch County Court before Judge French, Q.C., Mary Shannon, an Irishwomen, was sued by a German named Kaufmann,. 'for £5 2a. BJ. for arrears *of reirt; < Defendant connterclaimed for £12 for goods detained by pain tiff when she. moved away from his house. — Plain* tiff: Vy don't you pay me vat you owes me ?— Defendant : How can ye expect me to pay ye when it keeping me boxes ye are ?— Plaintiff : I gonoluded all mine engagement! with you, and as you was geepiog all ze rent back, I was geeping yonr tings. (Loud laughter.) — Defendant : Indade, and isn't it bad look I wai bavin 1 , and how could I pay ye ?— Plaintiff : Zeen, I keeps n tings.-— His Honour (to defendant) : Do you owe the rent t — Defendant ; Faith and I do, but it was divil a cint I was able to earn to, pay the rint with. (Laughter.y— His Honour: Well, you must pay. I will give judgement for the plaintiff for £5 2a., dd. (To plaintiff) : Yoa must give up the goods to this lady, as she is entitled to them.— Plaintiff : I haf only Behtopp*o"*e goods until ehe pay me vot sheow^lfor za rent. (Laughter.)— His Honour : But you must not detain them. You mutt give them up.-i-PlainTTff: <2agve zem up, yen she owes me all zis money ? — Bis Honour : Certainly, sit may be unfortunate for you, but you must obey the law.— Plaintiff : Eef sat is zee law it does ront alteration var much. (Loud laughter.)— HW Honour : I cannot help that. You must not detain them. - Defendant : Shure and that is what tb« magistrate sid. - Plaintiff ; I vill geeve zem up to her Ten she pays me zee monies for the rent.— His Honour : No, no, yon must give them up now.—Plaintiff :Zat is right, I zee now, you have geeven me the judgements.— His Honour: But you haven't got the money. (Loud laughter.) —Plaintiff : Zat yoB so, but she geeves me zee money, and I geeve her zee goots.— His Honour : What are the goods ? — Plaintiff: Zare are every things zet belong to her.— Defendant : Hivin riet your sow!, but there are boxes and. boxes of things.— His Honour (to plaintiff): You mn>t give the things at once, and get the money afterwards as best you can. (To defendant) : Howeanjou pay? — Defendant : Stx-shfllin 1 a month is ivry cint.- His Honour: Then I will make a order for 6s. a month' for the £5 6). Bd , and you most deliver the goods up to htr at once.-— Plaintiff : Before I gets ze monies f —Bis Honour ; Certainly. — Plaintiff: Mein Gott; Vat shall I pc doing next ? (Laughter.)
