Eddy, the American meteorologist, has invented what hecallsavitascope. This enables a man on the level ground to view the country as though he were raised above it. He attaches a mirrow to a kiU, and this reflect!
a picture of the country on a semilucent scr«en. The observer, lying .. on his back on the ground, with Ha feet towards the landsoape to be viewed, looks with a telescope at thai* screen of the kite, and sees tbi reflection of the country. Wbeti the kite is only 150 ft high the image is very distinctly seen. At 800 ft; the swaying of the kite makes it mc% tinct. Obviously, (sayg InventiJPjC' the^ device may prove usefull in military recognaisaance, especially from beleagured positions unprovided with balloons.
