Bush Fires in Nelson District.

FOUR MILES LONG BY TWO MILES WIDE. A bush fira started at Bainhain on Thursday at 11 a. m., and fanned by a strong wind soon assumed fear ful proportions, covering the whole of the township of Bainhara, and devastating the settlers' holdings, buildings, &c, for a stretch of about four mile 3 long by two miles wide. There is great loss in the Collingwood district. The places destroyed are: — Walk?r Bros. 1 large sawmill, large

and eight workmen's huts. Cooper's sawmill, men's huts and 60,000 ft of sawn timber; Harvey's •Iwelling-house, Baiabam Public Hal", Goiding's bain, Mr W. G. Graham's barn, and the season's hay just harvested. WAKEPIELP'S GULLY. On tho same day (Thursday) a fire started at the bottom of Wake field Gully, and rushed up the Gully with fearful rapidity, soon taking hold of Johnston's United battery shed, containing valuable battery plant; and in a few minutes th** whole place was completely levelled •o the ground, including two workmen's huts,' tramway, shoot, a lot of fluming and other plant, the whole loss being-very considerable. APPO3 GULLY. Another fire swept the whole of Appos Oully on Friday and Saturday, in which the Parapara Com pany's valuable pipe line, several huts and other valuable mining plants are Bituated, but no serious damage resulted.
