Daring the afternoon business might be desoribed as quiet, bat in tht evening matters enlivened up Considerably and a large number attended. We hare authority for stating that the takings yesterday exceeded J655, which appears astonishing considering the dullness of trade. NOTES,. v The .lads and lassies who sang "The Fair "were trained by Mrs England. r Jhe Maypole dancers had Mrs F. K. Young a* their instructress. , Mr England drove a trade with his nail-driving competition. The present of Mr Stevens was raffled for last night, valued at two Siineas, and fell to Mr England, c has again predated it to the Ladies Guild and ifc will be raffled for to-night. Everybody worked {lard or the sum received would not have been so large as it was. The side show, the Academy of Fine Arts, did a pushing business, ad over 100 entrances w^re received. The Fair is on again this after* noon and to night. The representation of Her Majesty the Queen in royal robes is a side show not to be missed. Miss Robinson's efforts with the Bran Tab were so successful that it was cleared of its contents before dosing honr.
