A WARNING.
The Pott publishes a letter just received from a New Zealander at Vancouver, from which we take the following :—
In the first place, let me state that there is not a possible chance of any | one getting up to Klondyke between this and next March, and tbe 7000 men who are in and around Dawson j Gity stand a big chance of going | under the snow during the long dark winter which is fast setting in.
There are about 7000 people left in Dawson City and along the upper river*, with not enough food for half that number. There is no chance of them getting out, and there is lesa chance of getting food to them. The last steamer laden with provisions which attempted to reach Dawson City had to return to Sfc Michael's at the mouth of the Yukon River.
The Dyea route is also blocked with snow. Hundreds of men who started for Dawson late in the season only got as far as Lake Burnett. Many intend camping there till the spring, and many have returned to Dyea, Victoria, Vancouver, and Seattle to spend the winter; some foolhardy men are leaving Dyea for Dawion at this late day, but they are only tempting Providence, and will not get as far as Lake Burnett.
The mining laws are of the vilest ; &c prospector is entirely forgotten axeapt on occasions when they quietly inform him that if he happened to find a rich claim he mast hand it over to the "fat man." In conclusion, let me adviae no man to come here till next yea.r. If they gat here by March they will be soon enough, and on no account let them come here unless they are prepared to go to the Yukon. This country is no working-man's friend ; the working-man is leaving Heaven for Hell when he leaves New Zealand for Canada.
