Foxton Borough Council.
The ordinary monthly meeting was held at the Library Buildings last night at 7 80. Present— The Mayor (Or J. B. Staneell), and Ora P. Hennessy, H. Coley, J. W. Walsh, W. B Rhodes, and A. Fraser. Cr Westwood sent an apology for being unable to attend. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed 1 The inward and outward correipondenoe was read. A petition was presented by Cr Coley signed by those interested in hay ng the road improved from end of present metal in Stewart- street to Messrs Gammon & Co.'s sawmill. Messrs H. Austin and King wore present and spoke of the inconreni* ence they had to suffer through the road being in a bad state. pubuo wobks comhttteb's repobt. We beg to report the day men have been employed on No. 1 and 2 Line repairing the ruts and filling in the holes, principally caused by the wind. They have also cleaned out the channel in Main -street, and taken the stuff to repair other parts that require it. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Gr Goley, That the application of Samuel Willard Nicholla for tranifer to the Borough Bale- book of par^ section 168, part Block VIII, Post Office Hotel, be granted.— Carried.
Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Hennessy, That tenders be called by advertisement for street* lighting, ranging, dog-tax colleofc* ing, carting, and pound keeper. Tenderd to be in by December 16th, 1897, and also far right of cutting cemetery grass, to close on Saturday, December 11th, and that the tenders fdr poundkeeper be either for 3 or 5 years.-— Carried. 1 Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Rhodes, That the application of Mr A. S. Easton for part of old road between sections 379 and 878 be *o!d to him at the same price that this Council paid Mr Geerge Nye for the piece purchased from him on April 2nd, 1894, namely, twelvo pouuds sterling, and that this Council is willing to expend end amount in the vicinity of said ruad.— Carried. . Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Coley. That the Librarian's attention be called to the state the garden is in, likewise to complaints of non-attendance during the hours of attendance at the Pablio Library. Carried. Proposed by Cr Fraaer, seconded by Cr Walsh, That the Public Works Committee inspect the proposed repairs to road leading to Gammon's . mill, and report on same at the next/ meeting of the Council. Carried. / Proposed by Cr Walsh, seconded by Cr Coley, That Cr Fraser be added to the Library Committee in place of Mr £. Osborne, late councillor. Carried. - ; Proposed by Cr Henneßsy, seconded by the Mayor, pro fofma, That the dog tax fee for the ensuing year be 103 per dog. Proposed by Cr Rhodes, as an amendment, seconded by Cr Walsh, That the dog tax for the ensiling year be the same as in the past year. The amendment was carried, only the proposer of the original motion supporting it. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Hennessy, That this Council adjourn to Wednesday, December 15tb, at 8.80 p.m. after the close of the special meeting. Carried.
