FOXTON C.C. v. SHANNON CO. The first match of the season was played between these cluba yesterday, on the Herrington ground, and re* « suited in a victorious win for the visitors by 55 runs. Tho weather was all that could be desired and the game throughout most enjoyable. Messrs Fuller and Brown proved themselves distinctly the best of the Shannon team both in batting and bowling, while of the Foxton representatives Messrs Ingram and Collins showed to most advantage. Tho fielding of the Shannon men was unmistakably very much better Ithan that of Foxton, which was indeed in many instances lamentably weak. In the Foxton Club there is the nucleus of a first-class team, but success requires practice and perseverance. The visitors were hospitably entertained by the local club, Mr Wanklyn supplying an excellent lunch in the Manawatu Hotel and cooling fluids in the field. Mr Mitchell acted as umpire for Foxton, and the Shannon men pat the players on in turns to act for them. We append the scores : — SHANNON.—First innings.
