The Mayoral Election.
STANSELL RE-ELECTED. HEAVY POLLING. Yesterday the election of Mayor was carried out. Great efforts were put forward by the supporters of Messrs Stansell and Fraser, and the result was declared a little after six o'clock by the Returning Officer, T. F. Gibson, Esq., as under :— J. R. Stansell . . 64 A. Fraser . . 60 Informal . . 1 After the declaration the candidates thanked the electors. Mr George Gray was scrutineer for Mr Stansell and Mr T. Mitchell for Mr Fraser. The result is certainly satisfactory, as Mr Stansell's actions as Mayor during the last year entitled him to re-election. On the other band, the support accorded to Mr Fraser proved that he was justified in agreeing to the request of his friends that he should stand. Now that the question is settled we trust to see all parties unite in pushing the progress of the Borough. The polling yesterday is the heaviest known, being 15 more than were polled last year. The actual number of votes on the Roll is 166, out of which there are 84 absentees, tnus leaving only 126 votes to be recorded and 125 voted. As is usual, both sides have not received so many votes as they calculated upon, but this is always so. Messrs Stansell and Fraser return thanks elsewhere. Wellington.— J. R. Blair polled 1859 votes, G. Fisher 579. Majority for Blair 788. Wanganui.— Hatrick polled 402, Liffiton 169. Majority for Hatrick 206.
