STODDART'S TEAM v. SOUTH AUSTRALIA. The international cricket campaign opened at Adelaide on Friday brilliantly for the colonials, A perfect ; wicket had been prepared. The attendance was large. ■ Lyons, who captained the South \uptralian team, won the toas, and, deciding to bat. accompanied Darling to the crease. The latter, who took ' the first over from Richardson, was caught off the second ball. Hill's arrival, however, stemmed the tide of disaster, and Lyons displayed all his own dash. Young Hill's was one of the finest of his many fine innings, being faultless in style, and he never \ gave a chance. He scored all round the wicket. Jar vis, too, showed fine form, and ; the two completely mastered the tiring bowlers, piling on the runs at . a ' great rate. The full bowling strength : of the visitors was repeatedly and ineffectively tried. IStorer, behind the wickets, fulfilled the high reputation he brought to the colonies. ' When the stumps were drawn for the day South Australia had lost five wickets for 861 run3. Following ia the score :—
