Political Notes.
On Tuesday the Premier informed the House that a Eoyal Commission would be appointed to inquire into the police administration. Inspector Tunbridge and a Stipendiary Magistrate would be some of the Commissioners. Sir Robert Stout asked " How could Royal Commissioners appointed by Ministers investigate the conduct of Ministers ?" The whole thing was, he said, an absurdity*
The Minister of Lands laid on the table of the House a memorandum in reference to the Horowhenua Block. Though declaring he had no quarrel with Sir Walter Buller, the Minister permitted himself to assert that he, Sir Walter Buller "had been impeached in a court of conscience, before the tribunal of public opinion. He had escaped in a Court of law by a series of legal quibbles." A Bill is to be introduced declaring section 14 to be native land, and providing for an investigation into the title, and the registration of all dealings therewith that have been mad 9by the true owners and are in accordance with equity and good conscience.
The debate on the Financial Siatoraenfc was opened by Captain Russell on Tuesday afternoon. The Minister of Public Works and Sir Robert Stout were the other speakers.
