The ordinary monthly meeting of the Manawatu County Council was held at the County Office, . Sanaori; on Friday last. P'regent— Crß V. 0. Ransom (Chairman), T. Masters, If. Hammond, W. Taylor, and A.' Strang. Or J. R. McLennan was granted leave of absence. The minutes of the previous meet* ing .were read, and confirmed; The following inward correspondence was dealt with : From Foxfcon Borough Council, requesting the Counoil to assist them in their endeavours to obtain a subddy from the Government of 4 for S, for Constructing a traffic bridge over the Manawatu River at Wirokino and further requesting the Manawatu Counoil to bear a third share of the cost of building the bridge £893 63 8d (net charges). It was estimated that the toll pro* po3ed to be placed on the bridge would cover all expenses including interest and maintenance. The Council decided that they could -not agree to be included in the proposals, the bridge npt being of such importance to the district as (0 warrant the expenditure. From Traffic Manager, re hire, of waggons for the haulage of metal for the Foxton-Sanson road work, and urging the Council to push on with the work as soon as the weather permitted. It was pointed out that j this work was proceeding very satis* i factorily until the late heavy rain prevented the metal being carted to , ibe trucks. j From E. Pigott, asking that the gear for Shannon Ferry be partly renewed, as that at present in use was becoming worn. — Mr Pigott to • be authorised to procure what gear ; was necessary. i From A. Jonson, agreeing to build a boat suitable for work in connec- . tion with Scott's Ferry, 16 feet long for the sum of £\l 53.— Offer ! accepted. I From the Foxton Borough (Joun- [ cil in connection with position of I survey of the New Beach Road. j Messrs Flyger and Alzdorf sent com* I munication on the same subject ' which was to the effect that the work i was well in hand and would shortly f be completed. j It was resolved that this Counoil ; agree to the proposed plans and i estimates for the Bulls bridge and j that the Government be asked to j grant a subsidy of £2 on each £1 ' expended by the Council in re* ; building the' bridges destroyed by ; the recent flood*. It was also resolved that C. R. S. McDonell be relieved of his contraot in connection with the working of Scott's Ferry as requested by him in terms of his letter dated 7th October, 1897. The following tenders were accepted :— Rivrr Bank Line, F. L. Bahrent, 22-3 8d per chain ; Elkin's Roid, J. Whittington, 11s 8d per 1 chain, Burr's Road, J. Andrews, 14s 1 per chain. Accounts to the amount of £1116 ! Is 7-i were passed for payment, and I the Council adjourned. — Advocate.
