Pneumatic Carpets to Lessen the Noise.

During the summer months it is intended to cover the corridors of the war, state, and navy building with pneumatic carpets. The noise resulted from a constant tramping of feet on the marble floors has proved a source of great annoyance to officials and employees. The marble is also peculiarly trying upon the feet, and extremely treacherous to those who do not carefully watch their movements. The pneumatic carpets are soft and elastic, and afford a sure footing. In warm weath,er they can be inflated with cold air, thereby materially reducing the temperature of the building.-- Washington Letter to the New York World.
