Political Notes.
The Opposition has definitely efo. cided to table a motion of protest as soon as Mr Ward presents himself ttt be sworn in, but beyond this, and some remarks from Mr George Hutchison and one or two members of the Opposition and " Left Wing," there is not likely to be any display of hostility. The question of whether Mr Ward can sit in Parliament has yet to be decided, however. The question really is whether or not the fact of his insolvency has been to create a fresh vacancy. Opposition members, as a whole, are of Opinion that to so to any great lengths in disputing Mr Ward's re-entry into the House would savour of persecution, and they are anxious to avoid I any such charge. Southern papers make the ap* parently inspired statement that tka Qaeen has refused to assent to the Asiatic Restriction Bill. As we have already stated, no definite message on the subject has been received by the Government. The Commandant of the New Zealand Forces is engaged in preparing a scheme for the re -organisation of the Volunteer Force, which will shortly be laid before Cabinet. In the meantime the Government will not accept the services of any new corps.— N.Z. Times.
