Mr Hutchison on Thursday drew attention to Mr Ward's elpclion, and in reply Mr Speaker said that he might say at once that ha had no knowledge of the bankruptcy of Mr Ward. He issued the notice of resignation in the Gazette. He was quite aware that under the law it was the duty of the Registrar to report the bankruptcy wilhin a specified time. He had not done so at that time or since. Mr Speaker concluded :— " If Mr Ward is pre sent and introduced to me, it will bf my duty to administer the oath." Then, after a pause : " Mi' Ward i? not present." Mr Buchanan intends to ask the Government if it will abolish the extra charge for haulage over the Rimutaka incline,
' Mr Pi rani is going to introduce a First Offenders Probation Act Am* endment Bill. Mr Kelly wants to know when the Railway Classification Bill Will be brought into operation. The election of the Speaker of the Legislative Council will take place on Wednesday, October Gvh. Mr H. S. Fish, M.H.R., who has been suffering from cancer in the throat for some time' past, died on Thursday morning at Dunedin.
