At the present time 878 engineering firms are resisting the demands of the engineers who are on strike for eight hours as a day's labour. The secretary of the Employers' Federation states that there will be no'terraiuation of the disputes unless the men withdraw their demands so far as the London district is concerned- Much trade will, he says, be driven outside Britain before the workmen are aware of it. The Duke of Connaugbt, replying to a toast at a banquet, said he was satisfied with the soldierly bearing of the colonial troops, and pleased to have had them under his command at Aldershot. The engineers at Belfast who went on strike to support the demand of the engineers of England for the introduction of the eight hours system have withdrawn from the strike and resumed work. A Free Labour Protection Association is being formed as the outcome of the presenUabour difficulties.
