Foxton Borough Council.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held at the Library Buildings last night at 7.80 p.m. Presant— The Mayor (Cr. J. B. Stansell), and Cra. P. Hennessy, H. Border, T. WestwoodandE.Osborne. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The inward and outward correspondence was read. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Or Border, That part block 8, cottage standing in rate-book and borough roll of the Borough of Foxton in the name of Andrew Jonson be transferred to Richard Thomas Betty, as occupier. Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Or Border, That the Mayor and Cr Hennessy be authorised to make arrangements with the Bank of New Zealand for transferring the Borough accounts from Bank of Australasia, and that Councillor Hennessy be authorised to sign the chequebook in place of Councillor Border, who is retiring. Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Westwood, That in answer to the circular from E. W. Roper, ohairman Canterbury Chamber of Commerce re training ship for the youths of New Zealand, the Council is in perfect accord with the views expressed in said oiroular, bat regret to say that they are not able to assist it financially. Carried. The Inspector of Nuisances' Report and also the Public Works Report was read. Proposed by Cr Westwood, seconded by Or Border, That the Public Works' Committee Report and the Inspector of Nuisances Report be adopted, and that the Public Works Committee be empowered to choose a fresh depot. Carried. The following accounts were passed for payment: — Railway Department (metal), £17 Os 2d ; 0. Spring, £7 17s 6d; John McGill, £7 lls 6d ; Hennessy and Co., 18s 8d ; C Collins, 8s ; 8. Wilson, 10a 6d ; Public Library (1 year's rent), £10; T. F, Gibson, 46 53 ; receipt books, 2* ; charitable aid to Mrs Boesen, £2 Os 8d ; same to John Reeve, 19s ; same to D. Twohig, £2 ; J. T. Ray, £1 Is ; E. 8. Tuynne. £8 193 6d ; F. E. Jenks, ss; B.M. Court, £1 12s; Stuart and Andrew, £9 18s Bd, and xefuhd deposit, 10s. Library accounts— W. J. Brown, 169 8d ; W. B. Rhodes, 183 6d ; N.Z. Insurance 1 Co., £2 6s 6d ; W. Nye, 4a 6d ; B. Spelman, £8 17s ; F. E. Jenks, 14s lOd. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Hennessy, That the Mayor sand an address of welcome to the Right Hon. R J. Seddon on his arrival from England, congratulating him on the able and dignified manner in which he represented New Zealand as Premier on the recent Jubilee Demonstration in London. Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Or Henoessy, That the clerk be instructed to get Mr Martin'* opinion re the letter from the Marton Borough Council re division of pro rata expenses in connsotion with the licensing election. Carried.; At the conclusion of the formal business the. Mayor rose and expressed his regret at the retirement of Cra Osborne and Border, and mentioned the pleasant feelings that had been displayed at the Council meetings. The two Councillors made suitable replies, and referred to the courftaousness shown by the Mayor. They also spoke highly of the services rendered by the Town Clerk.
