♦ The judicial difficulty which re-, oently arose in the Transvaal is practically settled. The authority and independence of the High Court has been established beyond interference by the Volksraad. The Sing of Benin has rubbed his forehead thrice in the dust, and ten of his leading chiefs have given similar tokens of absolute submission to British authority. A diamond area, covering 1000 square yards, has been discovered at Winburg, Orange Free State, 65 miles north-west of Bloemfontein.
