" Pulling His Leg."
A policeman (an old West Coaster) while giving evidence in the District Court at Falmerston North the other day stated that he waa travelling in the train in uniform and on duty, and was smoking his pipe. 11 Do you smoke your pipe when you are in uniform and on duty?" remarked Judge Kettle. " Yes your Honor. Why should I not enjoy myself like other people ?" was the constable's reply. "Well," remarked his Honor, " It is, I should say, contrary to all rules of discipline, but of course I must not forget that we are in New Zealand." Later on the same constable was asked if be would arrest anyone travelling on the train at the request of the guard. " Yes, sure I would that," waa the reply. " What," asked counael, " withoat inquiring the reason !" •' Yes sorr, I would that. I would take the Governor into me custody, that 1 would. I don't know much about police duties, but I would do that."— Exchange. [Somebody was 11 having his leg pulUd " here but it was not the " old West Coaster."]
