Primitive Methodism.
The 78th annual conference of the Primitive Methodist body was held in Ardwick Church, Manchester, in the month of June. The Rev. James Jj.ck.sou, of Barnard Castle, County Durham, was elected president, and Alderman McNeill, Mayor of Crew, vice president The report stated that 19 ministers had died during the year, and 25 ministers were ordained. A deputation from the Bible Christians for the furtherance of the proposed union between the two denominations was received. The deputation was accompanied by the Right Hon. James Way, Chief Justice of New South Wales. He won all hearts at once, there was so much heartiness in his speeoh. It was brimming over with kindliness, that it was thought the cause of union was considerably forwarded by it. A scheme of union has been prepared, and will be laid before the lower courts and then to each circuit. The findings are to be submitted to the conference in 1898, which is to be held at Laeds. The principle of a Sustenation Fund was unanimously accepted, and the necessary proceedings are to be taken.
