Proposed Rifle Corps.

Oh Tuesday evening there was a very well attended meeting at Whyte's Hotel of those desirous of joining a proposed rifle corps. Though lha notice was short, intimating Colonel Newall's visit, nearly 50 men were present to meet him. Colonel Newall spoke out very straight and pointed out the duties that had to be undertaken. He spoke very favourably about the Corps, and led the meeting to understand that his report would be favourable to its lormation. During the day the Mayor took Colonel Newall out to the rifle range, and that officer waß very pleased with it, finding by stepping, that 800 yards could be obtained on a perfect level. , At tha meeting Mr J. E. Stansell was elected captain of the proposed corps, and Mr J. W. Walsh lieutenant. All that the new corps are waiting for now is to learn whether the Government will accept their services.
