Fatal Railway Accident.

«, , A shocking train accident occurred in Tuesday at Manpawhero bridge, by which William Ramsey, an old man lost his life. As the down evening train approached the bridge the enginedriver saw a man's head a little above the level of the rails, and did all in kia power to stop. This however, could not be done, and the cowcatcher caught the man's head and knocked him off the bridge on to the bank below. The train stopped and put back, and the man was found dead, with his head hor- [ ribly shattered, while he had also broken hi 3 leg and arm in the fall. It is surmised that Ramsey was taken by surprise on the bridge (which baa no planks for pedestrians), and in the attempt to escape got caught. The body hag been brought into Hawera, and an inquest will be held.
