Greece and Turkey.

■ » Reuter's correspondent ia Crete states that the Admiral in command of the combined fleets is preparing to oppose the entry of the Turkish squadron into Cretan watt-ra. The Turkish squadron is now at Mitylene. Djevad Pasha, the new Governor of Crete, has informed the Porte that Crete is in a state of anarchy, owing to the incompetence of the Powers and the ignorance of the Admiral of the combined fleets. Djevad promised to crush the rebellion and conciliate the whole population if supplied with munitions of war and additional troops. Mr Goschen, Fir9t Lord of th-j Admiralty, stated in tho Houso of Commons that Turkey had been informed that the Turkish fbet will not be permitted to enter Canea Bay. Ismael Bey informed the Admirals of the combined squadron that the Turkish fleet had no intention of landing troops in Crete, but thu object was to carry out a series of manoeuvres in the Archipelago. The fear of Djevad Pasha'a intrigues is inducing many Cretan deputies to assent to the scheme of autonomy proposed by the Powers. Fighting has taken place between Turkish soldiers and peasants in the mountain country of Kalarrytes in North-west Thessaly, near the border of Epiras. Tbe Turke are reported to have suffered considerably.
