The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report on the produce markets for the week ending 28 rd July as follows :~ Wool - The news from London continues satisfactory, competition being keen for all classes of wool, and ag the trficle on the Continent is assum* iog a more natural tone, and the American tariff is likely to be a settled one for some time, we anticipate the maintenance of present prices, if not a gradual advance. That high prices are to be anticipated is hardly to be expected, but we can reasonably hope for values in the near future giving a fair margin of profit to growers. At our local sale to day we offered a small cata. logue consisting of orutchings and oddments, which was eagerly com" peted for by a good attendance of buyers. Orutchings ruled at from BJd to 4£d per lb. Sheepskins — We offered to-day a catalogue comprising 600 to 700 skins. The quality on the whole was good, and full rates were realised. ..Green skins ruled at from 3s 9d to 43 3d, and well-woqlled station skins with good pelt up to s£d per lb, and a nhade higher for a line of superior ekins. Hides — The local demand is not equal to the supply, and an outside market has to be looked for with very satisfactory results. We quote : For wellflayed cow hides, up to 8d lb ; prime* ox, 8&d to Bf d per lb, f.o.b TallowRather more enoouraging reports are received from London, but the looal market remains glutted Nomi« nal quotations are : For good mixed, £12 to £18 ; lower grades, £9 10a to £10. Oats— The market is not so firm, in fact a distinct drop in values is to be recorded. The stock on hand is fully equal to requirements, and we think that values will rule a shade lower yet. We quote : Prime short feed, 2s 7d to 2s Si, sacks in ; seed Duns and Tartarians, 3s to 83 3d, sacks extra. Chaff -The market is fully supplied, but values remain firm. We quote : Prime . bright heavy in oata, 95s to 100s ; medium, 87a 6i to X 9Q3 per ton, sacks extra.
