The Andrew Company, cottonspinners, of Ashton-under Lyrae, has recovered £500 damages from Mr Labouchere for a libel published in Truth. Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Premier of Canada, displays a lukewarm feeling in regard to tho Pacific cable. He mistrusts the estimates which have been made as to the cost, and the scheme is likely to be indefinitely postponed. Gold, silver and bronze medals are to be offered for the highest scores made by the colonial riflemen in the Imperial Prize competition at tb.6 National Rifle Association Meeting at Bisley. A number of papyri— rolls made of the paper of the papyrus plant, from which was made the paper of Egypt and India, used for writings until the discovery of parchment, about 100 B.C. — have been discovered amongst the ruins of a town in the Libyan desert in Northern Africa. They contain eight alleged sayings of Jesus Christ, and some of them are wholly new.
