The Railway Sick Benefit Society.

The half-yearly general meeting of the Foxton, Manawatu, Wanganui «, and New Plymouth Railway Sick Benefit Society was held on July Bnd, Mr Bone, President; in the t&aift dCbe Secretary's balance sheet and progress report was read, as follows :— -Balanoe from 1896, £120 14s lid ; contributions, £191 5s Id ; expenditure, £207 19s 2d ; credit balance in bank, £104 Os lOd. Bailway medical fund I Income, £64 18a Id i expenditure, £62 14s lid i credit balance, £2 8s lid. New members, 25. The sum of £82 had been subBoribed for a member in diifcress. A letter was received from. Mr Mclntosh, District Engineer, Wanganui, thanking the committee tot. their kind invitation to him to become a member of the Society, and stating that be had muoh pleasure in accepting the invitation and be* coming an honorary member, and enclosed one guinea contribution.— The Secretary was to acknowledge receipt and thank Mr Mclntosh for the kind expressions his letter conveyed to the Society and its officers^ : The Committee reported that the Society's operations had extended and its membership increased to such an extent that the rule 9 should be revised and enlarged.— After some dieeuasiob, Messrs Bone, Bewell, Meachen, Allan, Curtis, Carey, Liddle and Pepper were appointed a • Committee to report at next meeting. Business being disposed *f, songs and recitations were given in good style by several members present. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair.
