Reports from the Transvaal state that a Royal salute was fired on the Queen's Birthday, and both branches of the Volksraad adjourned in honour of the occasion.
Resolutions will be moved in the Cape Legislative Assambly by Mr J Rose-Innes, Under Secretary lor Native Affairs, that Sir Gordon Sprigg, Premier, be requested to arrange with the Imperil authorities the basis of a contribution by Gape Colony to the Navy. The Volksraad of the Orange Free State has, by the casting vote of its Chairman, negatived a proposal to restrict the franchise to the Dutch.
The British residents in the State are delighted at the result.
Despite the signs of more friendly feelings shown towards Britain in the Transvaal, Mr Barney Barnato considers that the position i 3 still seriotls.
Dr Leyds, who vacated the position of Secretary of State for the Transvaal on being appointed Minister to Germany and the Netherlands, will be re-elected to his former position.
