LIBERTY v. PROHIBITION.
TO THB EDITOR OF THK MANAWATO HERALD.
Sib,— Just before the vote of the Prohibition Poll v&3 taken, Mr J. R. Staasell gave a lecture, "Liberty v. Prohibition," and he argued that the drinkers were not degenerated as claimed by the Prohibitionists, and he issued a cha lenge of £5 to any " oold tea " man of his own age to feata of endurance.
Now I think his argument has been proved at the last Record Reiga Demonstration Sports held in the Victoria Park on the 24th May. For inßtanoe, in the Compulsory Official Raoe the three placed men were all moderate drinkers, and in the Old Men's Raoe of halfamile Mr J. R. Stansell won it.
In fact the " oold tea " party never won a race all day. Then his son Arthur won three first, one second, and one third prizes, and another son won the only race he started for. — I am, &c,
A Poxtok Resident.
