The Cuban Party in Washington is strongly pressing the Government to recognise the Cuban belligerents.

The American Chambers of Commerce are petitioning the Government to take measures to secure the peace of Cuba and thereby rescue the property of the Americans in Cuba from loss.

The Senate, by 40 to 14, adopted a resolution acoording Cuba and Spain equal war rights, the United Btates. however, to remain neutral in the Cuban difficulty.

The result of the division was warmly applauded in the spectators' gallery.
