It is expected in official circles that the United States will annex Hawaii in order to prevent Japan annexing.
News by the mail steamers from the East includes a statement that the Chinese Government has ordered four armoured cruisers, two fast cruisers, several torpedo boats, all of the English type, and gave indications that L\ Hung Chang is coming into full power again. Great preparations are being made at St. Petersburg for the reception of the Emperor of Austria, who arrives on a visit to the Czar on 27th inst. The German Emperor visits the Austrian Emperor later on. The French newspaper?, commenting on the visits of tha Emperors, expresses fear of the renewal of the " Maiserbund " or union of Emperors.
