THE CONFESSION.

The persistent rumours that the con* demned man had confessed his gailt, bat about which Mr Garvey, rightly enough vouchsafed us no information, have been confirmed by the following confession, which Mr Garvey forwarded after the murderer's death to the Justice Department. The confession runs as follows :— Terrace Gaol, 16th April. "lam guilty of the crime for which I am sentenced to death, and take ray death as the punishment lot all the evils and sins I have committed in my life. 1 had left my God and my Churoh, bat, thank be to God, while in prison He has sent me two friends who have brought me back to my sense, to Himself, and to Hia church ; and I now enjoy all the consolation that a Christian can have. I have a bright future and a light (? bright) hope, and I have the firm belief that God has forgiven my Bint, and that His salvation is for me. " This is to be used by Mr featvey after my death in any way or form he thinki fit, publicly or privately, or keep it to himself. " Stephen Bobhjul" Then follows a footnote:— " This is a freewill statement without being asked or without coercion whatever, as nobody in this prison never asked me a question in any way. 1 do it for my own welfare in the world to come. "Stefhbn Boshkb." It will be observed that the confession was made on Sunday last, the decision that the law must take its course having been arrived at on the previous Wednesday.
