Manawatu County Council.
The uiual monthly meeting was held at Sanson yesterday at 11 a.m. Present— The Chairman (Cr V. C. Bamom), and Crs A. Strang, T. Masters, J. B. McLeanan, and H. Hammond. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. From James King, Foxton, again calling the attention of Council to the oulvert in Main Drain through Partnui swamp. It was decided that the roadman be instructed to have culvert lowered. From Railway Engineers Department, Wanganui, drawing attention to condition of some rails and sleepers between Bongotea Boad Crossing and Sanson that want replacing. From the Treasury, asking for a certified copy of the special order whareby the Sandon and Carnarvon Boad Board was dissolved and the district merged in the County. From Margaret Giesen, Feilding, calling attention to condition of Awahuri Boad, opposite her property, and wanting a culvert put in to take off storm water. It was decided that providing the consent of Mr Turner to the culvert being put in was satisfactory it should be done. From B. S. Penny, calling attention to a culvert at the junction of j the Tramway and Campion's Road, which wanted lowering From the Manawatu Road Board, stating that a small sum might be ■pent in protecting the approach to the Campbelltown Bridge. From the Foxton Borough Council, saying that Wednesdays had j been fixed as the day on which the aUtuary half-holiday would be held. From the Palmerston North Hospital Board, applying for the contribution of the Council, namely, £208 12* 6d, From C. Bray, engineer, sending estimates of the cost of a bridge on the Awahuri Boad. From the Sluggish Biver Drainage Board, stating that the drain through Mr Luxford's property was not in the jurisdiction of the Board. From the Bailway Department, Wanganui, offering the exclusive use of ten waggons for use on the tramway at Ss a day. It was decided to accept the use of the trucks on a previous agreement at Is a day. • From Manawatu Boad Board, asking the Council to raise a joint loan for the construction of the Ngawahakarau Boad, leading from Oroua Bridge to -Jaokeytown. From J. Lucas, Oroua Bridge, requesting that a larger culvert be pat in opposite his property. The Drainage Board to be applied to for permission to enable Mr Lucas to lower it 18 inches. Cr Hammond presented a petition from ratepayers in the Waitohi Biding, requesting that 85 chains on Penny's Line be metalled. The request was granted. Proposed by Cr Masters, seoonded by Cr McLennan, That leave of absence be granted to Councillor Taylor for this meeting. Carried. Proposed by Cr Strang, seconded by Cr McLennan, That the aotion of the special committee re accepting tenders on 18th March, be pasped. Carried. Proposed by Cr Masters, seconded by Cr Strang, That the chairman, with Cr Hammond and the overseer visit the Campbelltown-Longburn Bridge, and report at next meeting. Carried. Proposed by Cr Hammond, seconded by Cr Masters, That the following alterations be made on the Valuation and Bate Bolls in* accord* anoe with written requests made to the Council :— Henry Bennett to Christina Stuart, in respect: of sections 196, 197, 189, Awahuri; B. H. McMillan to W. McMillan, part Carnarvon Estate, Carnarvon ; W. McMillan to C. H. Tarrant, for trustees Library Hall Committee, Awahuri, section part 70, Awahuri ; T. U. McKenzia to Thos. Waite Collins, section 14, Te Eawau, 86 •erea Waitohi; T. U. McEenzie to Obarles Hopping, Te Eawau, 251, Waitohi. Carried. Proposed by Cr Hammond, aetetMted by Cr McLennan, That the request of the ratepayers of the Waitohi Riding for metalling 85
chains of Penny's Line be acceded to, and that Mr Boyle's contract be extended 90 as to include the above 85 -chains, and that the price be £2 59 per chain, the foreman's estimate. Carried. Proposed by Or McLennan, seconded by Cr Masters, That tenders be called for formation of Main Drain Boad, Orona Bridge, for a distance of about 2 miles. Carried. Proposed by Cr Masters, seconded by Cr Hammond, That the banking account of the Manawatu County Council be transferred from the Bank of Australasia, Foxton, to Bank of New Zealand,- Sanaon, providing satisfactory arrangements can be made with the New Zealand Bank. Carried. Proposed by Cr Ransom, seconded by Cr McLennan, That the following tenders be accepted :— Contract No. 16, supplying metal on RongoteaLongburn Road, H. Austin, 63 10£ d per yard ; No. 22, lowering outting and metalling Hanson * Cemetery Road, J. Harris, £65 ; No. 28. supplying 100 yds of metal Lee's Line, G. Merritt, 2 s 4d per yard ; No. 24, 15£ chains formation and claying, and 52£ chains drain on Taikorea Line, W. H. Mathers, 93 per chain, or at a lump sum of £30 103.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Strang, seconded by Cr McLennan, That tenders be called for lowering and claying the first cutting on Elkins' Road, the same to be in by next meeting. Also that tenders be called for continuing drain and formation on Saunders' Road, to meet outlet drain to be brought up by Mr Saunders.— Car* I ried. The Overseer's report was read, and the accounts passed for pament. The Council then adjourned. .
