M. Smolentz, Minister of War, has resigned, on the ground that the Cabinet refused to reinforce the Greek troops Id Crete under the command of Colonel Vassos. M. Metayas succeeds him. About 100 Liberal members of the British House of Commons have wired to the King of Greece expressing their sense of the services Greece ha" rendered toward? Crete. The Athens newspapers assume a warlike tone, opposing the submission of Greece to the ultimatum of thf P.iWfTS Grvcp, with her reserve*, haa 100.000 m<jn under arms. . -?- M. Delyannig, Premier, threatens to refuse to pay the foreign debt coupons. The Greek colonies in Egypt have appealed to the Prince of Wales to protect Crete. In a letter on the Cretan question, Mr Gladstone says that to expel the Greeks from Crete, and retain the butchers of the Armenians as police, would be but to deepen the disgrace of the Powers. M. Delyannis, in the course of an. interview, said be would rather that Greece should disappear from the 1 map than that she should submit to the menaces of the Powers. It is announced that the Powers have directed Turkey to confine her troops to the Cretan towns, and ultimately recall all with the exception of the Governor's guard.
