The election of members lot the Wanganui Education Board last night resulted in Messrs Sanson and E. 0. Hurley being rejected. The north thus carries away one representative from the southern end of the district, which is very unfair. The annual general meeting of the Foxton Football Club will be held at the Manawatu Hotel nest Friday evening at seven o'clock. It is rumoured that Mr A. B. Worthington, of Students of Truth fame, has been invited to return to Christchurch to take charge of a congregation, and that he has been guaranteed an annual salary of £290. Mr Alf Fraser has evidently determined to build up the stationery business he has started, and as he ascertains the wants of his customers he does his best to supply them. It has been brought very prominently before him that a better class of fancy goods would find a ready sale, and the result is. now they are to hand. The assortment is large and the articles good. The ladies have had every attention, and reticules, hand brgs, card cases, purses, &c, in the best of leather and finish are on view. Gentlemen's requisites are also there. Fancy letter paper of beautiful designs and lovely tints can be purchased at a smalWcost. Birthday cards of wonderful design from the best maker in London are to be obtained very cheap owing to Mr Fraser importing direct. The sleepyheaded, if there are any who will own op to it, have not been forgotten, and cheap, wellmade alarm clooka have been obtained. These are not the fearful and horrb'e things which make noise enough to rival the steam syren of a Home line -, but act in & graceful manner at the appointed hour by playing a well-known air a la musical box, for ifteen minutes. Proving the music has been found capable of soothing even the savage breasts of those called np early in the morning. A house on the Moutoa Road, long unoccupied, has, we are pleased to find, been purchased by Mr Gibson, who will soon be placing it ia a thorough state of repair. Owing to the continued neglect of her duties, the school Committee have had to djsmiss the c eaner of the local school. The next sitting of the S.M. Court will be held on Thursday, when Mr Greenfield wil preside. The land recently cleared of flax on the Motoa Estate is now being sown down in g-asa. A novel feature at a sports meeting at New Plymouth recently was a bandsman's race, each competitor playing a tuna on his instrument. A firm of booksellers received recently an order for the following: — "Pharaoh (rarrar's) Life of Christ," " Worcester's Diseases of the Calendar (Diocesan • alendar)," " Handbook to Algebra and Tunice (Algiers and Tunis)," " God aim us (Gaudeatnus) by a Farmer," " Jewel Logs (Duologues)," and Buskin's "Founders and Heretics (Frondes Agrestes).' The annual March meeting of the Parihaka natiAes, which begins on the 17th inst., is expected to eclipse anything previously held in the way of festivities. Morgue offiaiah in New York are charged with a wholesale traffic in unclaimed bod es, selling them to physioians and Colleges at prices ranging from £20 to £100. The bullocks ah'pped last week by the Kennedy were from the Moloa Estate. Over 1000 ships of all kinds and s : zes pass up and down the Engish Channel every twenty-four hours, and there are scarcely ever less than 200 near Land's End, leaving or beating up fur the Channel. The Princess of Wales does not indulge in outdoor games much, but she makes an exception in favour of croquet, which is a favourite game at Sandringham, and also at Fredensborg The graceful, old-fashioned game is therefore reasserting itself, and is being played at many smart garden parties now in preference to tennis. A novel Bort of window g<ass has recently been invented. Persons on the inside of the house can see through it, but it is opaque to those on the outside. An exchange says that one of the most brilliant pi ces of cean wrecking seamanship on record, whereby the vessel, far out on the Atlantio with her ea go on fire, was saved and brought safely into port, was performed on board the American ship John Kay, commanded by Captain Samuel Jackson. At the Dunedin Supreme Court the hearing of the charges of breaches of the Bankruptcy Act against John By ej were continued. No evidence was called for the defence.
