The labourers employed in the ship-building yards on the north* east coast of England have taken a ballot, as a result of which they have decided against a strike, which was proposed in retaliation for the lockout of blacksmiths.
The Amalgamated Engineers have agreed to confer with the employers. A strike of railway employees has occurred at the chief stations of the North Eastern line.
The difficulty arose in the goods department, and the men employed in the passenger department are partly affected. The Amalgamated Engineers and the Blacksmiths have withdrawn from the ship- building yards of the Newcastle district, a conference of the masters and men having failed to arrive at a settlement.
The Newcastle Engineers held a meeting, and decided to call a general strike.
The North-Eastern Railway Company has issued a notification that the goods traffio to the ohief oentras ha 9 been temporarily stopped.
