The Niger.

The natives of the Bonny district, on the West Coast of Africa, to the eastward of the mouths of the Niger, having deposed their chieftain, the British Consul reinstated him, with the result that the natives threaten to murder the Consul, and the latter has requested the authorities to send a gunboat to his assistance. Reports from the Niger territory state that the tribes under the King of Nupe, in the district between Liknja and Bnjibo. having risen against the yoke of the Fulahs, joined their forces with those of the Royal Niger Company, and a sharp fight occurred at SKongo ; the remnant of the Fulahs being ejected, and tbn tnwn destroyed Mr R. D. R. Moore, one of the Vice-Consuls for the Niger Coast Protectorate, who has been in England, and was returning to the Niger country, joined H.M.S. The9eus at Las Palims, and proceeds to the Forcados mouth of the Niger, the entrance for large vessels from the Benin coast.
