Auction Sales.

On Thursday the auctioneer will be busy amongst us. In the morning he disposes of household furniture, and in the afternoon he has the profitable occupation of selling the privileges in connection with the Foxton Bacing Club's meeting. There will naturally be much interest aroused as to what is considered the value for a two days' meeting. To our mind they should be of more j value in proportion to the one day, i as all the trouble- entailed for the one j day iB all that is needed for both days, except that of taking in the shekels — which we all can stand a lot of work at. The outside gates ! are now simply a gentleman's occu» | pation, as he has only to collect the local visitors amounts, the railway collecting the gate money from all who travel by train. The purchaser has thus a chance of making a big " difty " with little labour. Everything points to there being a larger attendance at this meeting than at any previous one, if we can judge by what has been the case at the meet* ings held at Palmerston and Ashurst. Though people have fortunately "abjured sack" and have decided "to live cleanly," yet they still possets a thirst, which the sun does nothing to reduce, and as temperance drinks are retailed at similar prices to " tots," the vendori of liquid refreshment should have a fair field and plenty to favour them. A capital band hat been engaged, and thai the lawn and stand will be. orowded, and the number of horses taking part in the meeting should attract the public to the saddling paddock, We hope to see' a good attendance of buyert and smart bidding, and that we may be able to report a record sale, and we know the auctioneer, Mr J. R. McMillan, will do his best to make it so.
