MANAWATU RAGING CLUB. The above Club's Summer Meeting started on Stturday last (Boxing * Day) and wan concluded yesterday. The attendance on Saturday was the largest ever seen on the Manawatu Racecourse, and close on £7000 was put through the three machines, which were worked by Mr O, C. Miles, the former Secretary of the Club. The weather was simply perfect, the racing of the most exciting character, and the management generally good. The bookmaker and spieling fraternity were conspicuous by their absence, only one or two being ejected, although they were ' not plying their calling, and there is a report current that the Stipendiary Magistrate will ba called upon to decide the legality of the ejection. From an indifferent start Strathbraan and Douglas had all the best and Lorelei and Light all the WOHt of it. When the horses bad settled down Strathbraan was bowling along ia front, and maintained bit position until the home turn was reached. Here Lorelei, Douglas and Qailtiri put ia their claim, and soon lettledStrathbraan's chance. When fairly in the straight Loreli was at the head of affairs, and after a desperate race won by a short nose from Douglas, Quiltiri two lengths away third. Time, 2min 88 2 6th sees. Dividend, £3 Is.
