MANAWATU RAGING CLUB. The above Club's Summer Meeting started on Stturday last (Boxing * Day) and wan concluded yesterday. The attendance on Saturday was the largest ever seen on the Manawatu Racecourse, and close on £7000 was put through the three machines, which were worked by Mr O, C. Miles, the former Secretary of the Club. The weather was simply perfect, the racing of the most exciting character, and the management generally good. The bookmaker and spieling fraternity were conspicuous by their absence, only one or two being ejected, although they were ' not plying their calling, and there is a report current that the Stipendiary Magistrate will ba called upon to decide the legality of the ejection. Appended are the results : — FIRST DAY. • Telegraph Stakes Handicap, 80 soys, 7 furlongs. J. R. McDonald's Titoki, 7sfc 71b (Jenkins) 1 Daredevil, 83fc 31b 2 Moonraker, Bst 81b 3 Belligerent, Bijou, and Bavaria also started ; Ascot Vale, Splinter, and Carrick were scratched. A Bplendid race between the first two, Titoki on the outside winning by a nose. Time, lmin 823ec. D.videnend, £2 18s. Firdt Handicap Hurdles, 75 soys., Mr T. Scott's Rossall, 10ii 61b (A. Hall) .. ... 1 Swift, lost 61b 2 RaDgipai, lOst 71b 8 Glenelg, Napoleon, Bushgirl, and ! Troubadour also started. Won easily by two-lengths, Rangipai a poor third. Time, Bminsßiec. Dividend, £8 23. First Hack Hurdles, 40sovs, If miles Mr H Shanley's Billy, lOat 11 ; b 1 Bohemian, lOst 41b 2 Venture, 9st 91b 8 Tricky Jack also started ; Halcione was scratched. Venture was first over the last obstacle, but was chal lengtd by Billy and Bohemian, and after a great set to the former gained the verdict by a nose. Time, Bmin 81sec. Dividend, £5 15s. Manawatu Cup, SOOsovs, 1£ miles. Mr J. 0. Collins Lorelei, Bst 41b (Jenkins) 1 Douglas, 7st 41b (Glass) ... 2 Qailtiri, Bss 4lb (Matthews) ... 8 Strathbraan, Monte Carlo, Man 0* War, Orion's Belt, Rip Van Winkle, Trentalto, Voltigenr and Light also started. From an indifferent start Strathbraan and Douglas had all the best and Lorelei and Light all the WOHt of it. When the horses bad settled down Strathbraan was bowling along ia front, and maintained bit position until the home turn was reached. Here Lorelei, Douglas and Qailtiri put ia their claim, and soon lettledStrathbraan's chance. When fairly in the straight Loreli was at the head of affairs, and after a desperate race won by a short nose from Douglas, Quiltiri two lengths away third. Time, 2min 88 2 6th sees. Dividend, £3 Is. Haok Handicap, 40sovs, 1£ miles. Mr B. £. Mcßae's lolanthe, 7st 6!b 1 Marvellous, 7st 61b 2 Aquafortis, 7st 61b . . . . 8 Indian Shot, Slumber, Opai, Storm King, Cilmarine, Acme, Fireworks and Eodara also started. Maid Marion, Splinter and Boreas were scratched. lolanthe shot out from the ruck in the straight and won eaeily by three lengths. Time, 2mio 10 8 sth seo. Dividend, £22 12s. A match between Mr Abrahams' Princess May and Mr Lloyds Vanity for £25 aside, half a mile, was won by the former. Grand Stand Handicap, lOOsovs, 1 mile. MrW. Rathbone's Blarney, Bst 21b 1 Crimson Streak, 7st 21b . . 2 Belligerent, 7st 21b .. ..8 P*- Titoki, Light and Splinter also started. Quiltiri, Strathbraan and Man O 1 War were scratched.
