■» The usual monthly meeting was held at the -Library Buildings yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Pre-sent-The Mayor (G. Nye, Esq.). and Ors H. Border, H. Coley, E. Osborne, J. W. Walsh, F. Hennessy, and T. Westwood. The minutes of the previous* ordinary and also a special meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence received was read, whioh was nothing of muoh importance. The following accounts were passed for payment : — J. Sullivan, £6 5a ; G. Spring, £8 2s ; T. F. Gibson, £6 5s ; A. Fraser, 4s ; H. Blake, £2 6s ; Hennessy & Go., 14* 2d ; R. H. Barber, £1 0s 2d ; E. S. Tbynne, £1 sa; Westwood & Co., 2s; W. Alzdorf, £2 2g ; l\ Guerin, £4 18s 4d ; J. McGill, £1 *, J. Thompson, £1 Is 6(3 ; charitable aid rations to Mrs Boesen, £1 18s sd ; pame to D. Toohig, £2 10s; Mayor's honorarium, £10. Library Account -.H. Blake, 16* 8d; W. B. Rhodes, 7d; B. Spelman, £8 17s. Proposed by Cr. Westwood, seconded by Cr Coley, That the resolution dated April 2od, 1894, calling the ordinary meetings of the Council on the first Monday in each month at 2 p.m be rescinded, and that this Council meet for ordinary business on the first Monday in each month at 7.80 p.m.— C irried. Proposed by Cr Westwood, seconded by Cr Walsh. That B. Spelman 1 s application for 20s for burying two horses be considered at the March meeting, 1897. — Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Osborne, That the following transfers on Rite Book be granted : Lots 27. 28, 80, 81 and 82 part section 468 from Daniel Whibley to Sarah Whibley ; also part lot 11 part Block VIII from Geo. Langley to Wiri Eparima ; and lots 68 and 64 part section 29 from James 0. Sullivan to Arthur C. Barlow. — Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Coley, That the Clerk give public notice that ten per cent, will be added to the current year's rates if not paid before the Ist day of February, 1897, and that the Clerk be instructed to sue for all arrears of rates without further noMce. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Hennessy, seconded by Cr Osborne, That the letter received from the Taranaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board be held over for further discussion. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Westwood, seconded by Or Coley, That Mrs Bismarck be allowed the use of that part of Futter street, adjoining section 510, during the pleasure of -■ this Council at the rate of 20* per annum. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Border, seconded by Cr Westwood, That Constable Gillespie be appointed Dog-tax Collector for the year 1897.- Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Border, That the fee payable for the registration of every description of dogs within the Borough of Foxton for the year 1897 be 5a per dog, and that the office for registration be the Courthouse, Foxton,— Carried. Proposed by Cr Hennessy, se« conded by Cr Osborne, That arrangements be made with the. contractor to put four inches of clay on naked sand through the cutting and bank on Cemetery Road.— Carried The following applications were reoeived for the position of two day-men tor the Borough:— C. Spring, H. Proctor, J. McGill, W. Nye, H. Blake, jun., W. Aldridge, Wm. Johnson, James Andrew, and W. H. Stevensen. Only one tender was received for lamplighting, that of P. Guerin at £28 per annum. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Westwood, That 0. Spring be appointed working foreman at 6s per day (wet and dry), and John McGill dayman at 6a per day when employed, according to specifications.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Westwood, seconded by Cr Walsh, That the tender of P. Guerin for lamplighting at £28 be accepted.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Hennessy, seconded by Cr Osborne, pro forma, That three months' leave of absence be granted Mr John Sullivan on full pay. This resolution was lost, the mover and Or Border voting for it, and Crs Coley, Oaborne, Walsh, Westwood and the Mayor against it
