The General Election.

The voting at Foxton passed off very quietly though a large number exercised their privileges at the poll. Mr Alf. Fraser was the deputyreturning officer for the general election and in charge of the booth. Mr McElwain was the deputy -.ret urn. ing officer for the licensing pollThe poll olerk for the general election was Mr W. Alzdorf, and tha licensing poll, Mr Angus Keith. The following gentlemen acted as scrutineers ; Mr W. G. Robinson for Mr Bruce, Mr Hibbert for Mr Stevens, and Rev. S. Barnett for Mr Kellow. LICENSIHQ PoLIi.Foxton.— Licenses to remain as they are, 243 ; for redaction, 120 , for prohibition, 188 ; informal, 18. The result of the licensing poll in Manawatu gives 400 majority for retaining licenses as they are. In Wellington 6911 voted for licenses as they are, 5655 for reduo tion, and 4947 for prohibition. The returns from other parts of the colony are not fully to hand, but they point to a large majority in favour of allowing licenses to remain as at present.
