Manawatu County Council.
« ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Manawatu County Council was held in the Council Chambers, Sanson, on Wednesday. Present— Crs Ransom, Hammond, Wilson, Strang, Masters and McLennan. Mr F. Purnell, Clerk to the County, oooupied tht ohair. Cr Masters proposed that Or Bansom be re-elected Chairman for the ensuing year. It was said that there was never any opposition at the Council meetings, and he thought that this was in a great measure due to the way Cr Bansom had carried out the dutieß of Chairman in the past. Cr Wilson seconded the motion. He considered that the cordial relations which had previously existed in tb.3 Counoil were in a great measure due to the exoellent mannar in which Cr Bansom had carried out the duties of chairman. On being put to the meeting, the motion waa carried unanimously. Cr Bansom thanked the Council for the honour they had conferred upon him by re-electing him as
Chairman. He would endeavour to carry on the work of the Council as it had been done in the past. He hoped the members would assist him in carrying out the work of the Council. On the motion of Or Wilson, seconded by Cr Strang, Crs Bansom and Hammond were appointed as members to the Palmerston North Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. The Council then held a special meeting for the purpose of confirming a special order. Proposed by Cr Bansom, seconded by Cr McLennan, That the resolution passed at a special meeting of the Council held on the 14th October, 1896, as follows— That a special order be made striking a special rate of one-ninth of a penny in the £ on all the rateable property within the County of Manawatu to provide interest and sinking' fund on the proposed loan of £6000 to be raised under " The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act 1886," for forming and metalling roads within the County, such rate to be an annual recurring rate for 26 years payable in one sum on the Ist day of April in each year at the County Office, Sanson, be now con* firmed.-— Carried. On the Council resuming its ordinary meeting, it was proposed by Cr Wilson, seconded by Cr Masters, That tenders be called for forming and metalling the unmetalled portion of the Mt. Stewart line road, tenders to be in by 9th Deoembar. — Carried. The Counoil adjourned to Wednesday. December 9th, at 2.80. — Advocate.
