Eruption of Tongariro.
, ♦ The following telegram was re- [ ceived yesterday by Mr W. Gray, \ Secretary of the Post and Telegraph \ Department, from the Postmaster at ; Taupo : — > "Te Mare, a low oone of Tongariro, though recently active, cora- \ menoed an extraordinary eruption about mid-day. " A large column of steam and > smoke and a oloud of red ashes are | reported to be seen 20 miles northwest of here. 1 " Eruption i started again about 8 > p.m. continuing until dusk."
