Small Birds Nuisance.

The Mayor has obligingly handed us the following, received from the Department of Agriculture. RECEIPTS FOB POISONED QBAIN. 1. 8 quarts water, 4 ounces phosphorus, 8 pounds sugar; boil water, then add phosphorus and sugar, and after sugar is well dissolved put in the wheat; keep stirring for gome time. 2. 1 ounce arsenite of soda, 1 pint water (warm) ; pour this over as muoh wheat as it will cover ; allow to soak for 24 hours in close vessel ; then spread out to dry. 3. 1 pound arsenic, 1 pound washing soda, 1 pound sugar, 2 gallons water; boil for ten minutes and stir well ; place about 401bs of wheat in a galvanised tub and pour mixture over; in about eight hours the wheat will have absorbed the water ; dry in the sun. Encourage the bird 3 for a few days with good grain before laying the poison.
